post Christmas package!

December 20th, 2008

I’ve had some time recently and it seems like quite a lot of people are having problems with installing all the necessary libs, compiling fontconfig, whatever, so i’ve made a .pkg. I’ve tried to test it but it was rather limited testing so I need you to tell me if it really works as it should :)

The package will install all necessary libs in correct locations and pcsx2/mac itself would be in Applications/pcsx2

This package also includes the spu plugin, ported by rayan from macscene forums. Thanks go to him for his good work.

Well, nothing much to say, grab it here - http://pcsx2-mac.quant0r.com/files/pcsx2.pkg

  1. Thanks for the release! Tried the .pkg, seems to install correctly though I didn’t remove the old libs.

Still had to manually change plugin file permissions.
    chmod 777 bin/plugins/*

Sound plugin is working. I bit stuttery but I’m on a slower macbook pro.

  2. ah, ok, yes, i seem to have reset the permissions when copying for packaging. Reuploaded, should be fixed now…

  3. The sound plugin is a bit stuttery for me too, on my mbp, even on svn which is faster, will take a look when i have time

  4. Pleease I need help!

I downloaded this package installed CG Framework and the X11 thing but still I get this message:

Could Not Load GS Plugin ‘/Applications/pcsx2/plugins/’:dlopen(/Applications/pcsx2/plugins/,2): no suitable image found. Did find:
    /Applications/pcsx2/plugins/: not a file
    /usr/local/lib/: not a file

That’s it please Zedr0n I read your guide 2 times and still I don’t know what I am doing wrong! Actually I just read it to make sure that I don’t need to download any extra files. I downloaded those two: CG Framework and the X11 thing I used plugins and bios from my friends computer but whatever I do I get this message, then I click ok and it takes me at the configuration window.

    I beg you help me

  5. Been following this since you first posted the idea on the PCSX2 forums!
I dont have Leopard, but i hope to get it for X-Mas, i have a 40 GB PS3 and have the MGS Essential collection, so i want to play it :)

Will check this out ON X-MAS when i get leopard.

Normally all i do on X-Mas is try out new games that I got but im so excited about this i will try out PCSX2 for Mac before my PS3 games :)

  6. i keep getting this message:

    ** (:2412): WARNING **: Couldn’t find pixmap file: pcsxAbout.bmp
    Bus error
    logout

i checked the bin folder for the “.pixmaps” directory and its content “pcsxabout.bmp”. …everythings’ where it should be.
and i got no idea what “Bus error”s about.

  8. Here’s another error which I get when trying to start pcsx2 via the terminal or finder:

    $ ./pcsx2
    dyld: Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/Cg.framework/Cg
    Referenced from: /Applications/pcsx2/bin/./pcsx2
    Reason: image not found

Do I have to install other libs? Best wishes & Happy christmas

    Comment by coin3d — December 24, 2008 @ 11:47 am

  9. @ keybademaster:
you need to select the plugins folder in “pcsx2/bin/” not the one in the “pcsx2″ folder.

    Comment by Bender — December 24, 2008 @ 6:11 pm

  10. Same error here:

    $ ./pcsx2
    dyld: Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/Cg.framework/Cg
    Referenced from: /Applications/pcsx2/bin/./pcsx2
    Reason: image not found
    Trace/BPT trap

where i have to go to change the config? Because i see only the pcsx2 executable… :)

    Comment by GTOnizuka — December 25, 2008 @ 10:24 am

  11. ok, sorry for the reply but i’ve try to change the config (that is absolutely correct) and did non change anything.
After analyzing the error i’ve deducted that the error is that is missing the Cg.framework package (that must be included into the pkg) so please could you provide it? Thanks for all :)

    Comment by GTOnizuka — December 25, 2008 @ 10:34 am

  12. anyone but me getting that “bus error” and/or “pixmap” problem and knows how to solve it? btw. merry christmas everybody!

    Comment by Bender — December 25, 2008 @ 11:58 am

  13. CG framework won’t be provided as part of package, it’s much too big and should be installed separately as well as xquartz

    Comment by zedr0n — December 25, 2008 @ 3:51 pm

  14. I have installed the XQuartz package (as the project logo tell that is a xquartz port) but i don’t know where can i download the Cg package (compiled as binary, not to download sources and to compile them by myself). Could anyone please tell me where to find them? Thanks for all :)

    Comment by GTOnizuka — December 25, 2008 @ 5:46 pm

  15. It’s just a .pkg

  16. @bender

Im getting a bus error as well

When I try to run something I get a white screen for a few seconds then it quits itself

    Comment by Jholar — December 26, 2008 @ 4:13 am

  17. You’ve got a lot of feedback already but I thought you might want to know that I started with a completely fresh Mac and installed your package, NVidia CG, xquartz, and the two lib bundles below and got everything to work fine with very little effort. Looks like you are getting very close to a distributable program.

    Comment by Tenethor — December 26, 2008 @ 1:01 pm

  18. you should run it from x11 program, not from normal terminal or by clicking on executable in Finder - it wouldn’t work

    Comment by zedr0n — December 27, 2008 @ 12:13 am

  19. @zedr0n

What file are you supposed to open specifically in X11? The finder app doesn’t work (obviously) and my untrained eyes don’t see anything else that could be opened

    Comment by Jholar — December 27, 2008 @ 6:08 am

  20. Yeah but can anybody answer… MY QUESTION???????????????

  21. I get a white screen when running any game, just a heads up, does this require nvidia gpus or will a Radeon HD do also ?

  24. Hi,

I’m having this problem for few days and have been trying to reinstall, install, reinstall, resetting the permission and all, but still getting this error: Could Not Load GS Plugin, screenshot as below:

    http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3287/3142851123_9ff2b27de8.jpg?v=0

And my configuration panel is just EMPTY, no plugin what so ever even if I have selected the plugins folder with logs of different type of plugins downloaded. What am I doing wrong?

  25. beastlife - you need to install latest xquartz

    Comment by zedr0n — December 28, 2008 @ 12:48 pm

  26. Aaoh, you need to launch pcsx2 from X11 application(Applications/Utilities/X11.app). Then xterm will automatically open and you have to type

    cd /Applications/pcsx2/bin
    ./pcsx2

  27. I was just curious about whether or not other graphics plugins besides Zerogs could be used in the mac pcsx2. I ask because I prefer gsdx and no other plugins seem to be recognized other than the stock plugins.

    Comment by Ace — December 29, 2008 @ 12:46 am

  28. @thekeyblademaster

I think you have the wrong plugins folder selected, then you select a plugins folder choose the once in the same place as the pcsx2 application (the one with 15 items)

  33. Hi Zero, thanks for the reply earlier on, now my pcsx.bin works fine.

Now I’m having yet, another problem which is regarding the ZeroGS Error, similiar to username Dame (above post). I tried following the guide at http://quant0r.com/trac/trac.cgi/wiki/runningPcsx2 to change the lines at ps2hw.fx shader , but I have no knowledge on editing in terminal. Is it possible you could attach the file of the changed lines in your site?

    Thanks again.

    Comment by Aaoh — December 30, 2008 @ 3:30 pm

  34. @aaoh

For instant gratification you can change the file from a .fx to a .txt in the finder, open it in text edit then find and change the appropiate line. Then change the file back to a .fx (you may have to do it from the ‘get info’ box) and it should work fine

And to boot: Always keep a back-up of the original file just in case

  35. Finally got games to render. Two problems I’m now having:

    1) Shadow of the Colossus runs, but it only shows the top left quadrant of the screen, blown up to the size of the whole screen, and I get a repeating error message of “dest alpha blending! manipulate alpha here” any idea what’s up with that?

    2) Regardless of which game I launch, there is no sound. When I click on the configure button for the sound plugin, I get a popup that says “nothing to be configured”. Any idea how to fix this? I’d love to play through FFX and it renders beautifully, but I can’t get through it without sound.

    Comment by Dame — December 31, 2008 @ 1:45 am

  36. @Dame

Look at the plug-in that the sound function is using: If its SPU2null 0.7.1 then you will need to change it using the drop-down list. The null plug-in obviously plays no sound and it only a proxy; it’s probably there for debugging/stability issues. (Getting rid of all the bugs in the graphics before compounding them by bugs in the sound)

No stability promises, but you should have another option in the drop down menu if you installed with the xmas package

    Comment by Jholar — December 31, 2008 @ 4:20 am

  37. Wow, thank you Jholar, I feel like an idiot, lol. So problem solved on the sound thing.

Has anyone tried kingdom hearts: chain of memories? I get the opening music, but the screen stays black the entire time.

    Comment by Dame — December 31, 2008 @ 4:57 am

  38. Dame, Shadow of Colossus isn’t on the compatibility list for the official pcsx2 even, i think. The problem of being blown up is the same which would happen in kingdom hearts - there’s smth wrong with antialiasing, try switching it off and see if it helps

    Comment by zedr0n — December 31, 2008 @ 7:40 am

  39. Should i create a forum for discussion instead of using comments sections for everything?

    Comment by zedr0n — December 31, 2008 @ 7:47 am

  40. Thanks Zedr0n. The new kingdom hearts game won’t display, even with AA turned off. I can move the cursor around and select menu items in the game’s opening screen (I know it’s there, but the screen itself is still totally black).

A discussion forum would be amazing.

Thank you again for all of your hard work. Things are really coming together.
